CJI: I don’t want you to answer the question. Sit down otherwise I will have you removed from the court.
Nedumpara: If you don’t respect me, I myself will leave.

CJI: Mr Mathews I will be constrained to issue something that is very unpleasant. You will not interrupt any other lawyer. I am in charge of the procedure in this court. I have seen the judiciary for the last 24 years and I will not allow any lawyer to dictate the procedure of my court.

Justice Bagchi: What is the point of saying sorry? Write a letter to your client - both you and your senior. Tell them that the judge was inclined to grant bail but because we were not prepared, you were not released on bail today. Please write that letter. And henceforth, never come to any court trying to seek adjournment without papers. By doing that, you take for granted that an adjournment will be granted. That is not the case. What is the point of telling us sorry? We, the judges, are not in jail. Someone, presumably who gave valuable consideration to your senior is in jail. The trust that was reposed on your senior and you is being betrayed here. That is the first lesson you should learn as a junior - never betray the trust of a client. Always be prepared. You spent 5 years in law college! Was that for the purpose of taking adjournments? Tell your senior - if you’re sending me to take adjournments, give me the papers and I should be at least ready on the facts. Don’t degenerate yourself to the role of an adjournment lawyer. Have some self respect. Once you start respecting yourself, your seniors and everyone else will respect you. Otherwise no body will respect you.
After rapping the junior lawyer, the bench proceeded to grant bail to the accused in the case.
