#Worldcoin executives are set to appear before a Kenyan parliamentary committee on September 4, following the suspension of the project's activities in the country. The committee revealed that at one point in July, 350,000 Kenyan residents had shown interest in Worldcoin, accounting for a quarter of its #global total.
According to a report by The Star, World ID sign-ups from 34 countries had reached 2.26 million by August. Despite the suspension in #Kenya, Worldcoin cited a record number of sign-ups in #Argentina as evidence of growing demand for World ID.
The Kenyan government has taken a stringent stance against #Worldcoin and its local affiliates, a position supported by a Kenyan court. The investigating committee, chaired by Narok West legislator Gabriel Tongoyo, will also hear from those who failed to #cash out their #tokens.
Tongoyo stated that Solicitor General Shadrack Mose and Data Commissioner Immaculate Kassait are also expected to testify before the committee. The appearance aims to address various issues surrounding Worldcoin's #crypto project in Kenya.

According to Dune Analytics, more than 20 million @Reddit Collectible Avatars have been minted since the collection's inception in 2022. Around 16.1 million unique #wallets hold these #NFTs, with over 2.2 million possessing multiple avatars.
By May 31, there were 13.9 million avatars held in about 10 million wallets. Over the past two months, more than 6 million new #NFTs have been minted, and a similar number of unique wallets have joined the community.
@Reddit's release of its Gen 4 collection on July 27 significantly increased the number of avatar holders. #Gen 3 alone generated sales transactions exceeding $3.4 million. The Reddit avatars, unlike other #NFT pieces, are sold for a fixed price and only for #fiatcurrency.
The Gen 4 collection, titled "Retro Reimagined," included several limited edition releases priced between $4.99 and $199.99 each. The Bank for International Settlements (#BIS) has announced the creation of a cross-border payments interoperability and extension (PIE) task force, with #Ripple, the #blockchain-based digital payment network, as one of its key participants. The #Financial Stability Board (#FSB) presented priority actions for reaching G20 targets in February 2023. #CryptoNews: Russia's Central Bank to Initiate Testing of Digital Ruble
Russia's central #bank announced on Aug. 9 that it will begin testing its digital ruble with selected banks, consumers, and businesses starting mid-August.
Olga Skorobogatova, First Deputy Governor of the #Bank of Russia, emphasized the importance of this pilot stage to ensure the platform's operation and user convenience.
From Aug. 15, participants from 13 selected #banks will start using the digital ruble at 30 designated locations across 11 cities. During the pilot, users will be able to create accounts, make peer-to-peer transfers, perform auto payments, and make QR code purchases with the real version of the #digitalcurrency.

@PayPal Holdings Inc., the renowned online payments company, has announced the launch of an #Ethereum #blockchain-based stablecoin pegged to the U.S. dollar.
The company, which reported a revenue of US$7.3 billion in the second quarter, believes that its fully-backed, regulated #stablecoin can serve as a bridge between #fiat currencies and the #blockchain for consumers, merchants, and developers.
The newly introduced stablecoin, #PayPal USD (PYUSD), is backed by U.S. dollar deposits, short-term U.S. Treasuries, and similar #cash equivalents. Customers who purchase PayPal USD will have the ability to transfer the #stablecoin to compatible external wallets, pay other customers, and purchase foreign #currencies using the stablecoin.
@PayPal USD, issued by Paxos Trust Company, can be redeemed using the U.S. #dollar. Users also have the option to convert the token into different cryptocurrencies supported by PayPal. The company announced that the ERC-20 stablecoin will be rolling out in the coming weeks for U.S. customers and will later be available on #Venmo, the peer-to-peer payment application owned by PayPal.

#CRYPTONEWS: India Proposes Global Crypto Regulation Roadmap as G20 President
India, currently presiding over the Group of 20 (#G20) forum, has proposed a roadmap for the regulation of crypto #assets. The aim is to establish a comprehensive, cohesive, and coordinated global policy for the #crypto sector. The proposal was outlined in a Presidency Note released on August 1.
The note emphasizes the need for more coordination to implement regulations adopted by different jurisdictions consistently. It represents India's input for a Synthesis Paper that the International #Monetary Fund (IMF) and the #Financial Stability Board (FSB) are expected to publish by the end of August.
The Synthesis Paper will feature an overview of various #crypto-related risks and will incorporate a "Roadmap on Establishing a Global Framework for Crypto #Assets" for the #G20's consideration. The roadmap aims to help countries establish a minimum policy standard for crypto assets to safeguard #macroeconomic and financial stability and #financial integrity.
India has suggested several "action points" for the roadmap, including outreach to all jurisdictions, capacity building for implementation, oversight, and enforcement of standards. It also calls for continued monitoring of financial stability risks posed by crypto assets by the FSB and monitoring of #macrofinancial vulnerabilities by the IMF.
The note also emphasizes the need for more effective implementation of anti-money laundering (#AML) and combating the financing of terrorism (CFT) standards across jurisdictions. It suggests that the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) should report on their implementation directly to the #G20.
