Cuba is not a tourist destination. Cuba is a nation where millions of people have lived for decades without basic freedoms under a communist dictatorship. Standing outside the United Nations today, my message is simple: the world must not ignore the reality facing the Cuban people. For more than 67 years, the Cuban regime has denied fundamental freedoms, imprisoned dissidents, silenced independent voices, and forced generations of Cubans to flee their homeland in search of liberty and opportunity. It is a contradiction for a regime accused by many human rights organizations of serious human rights violations to hold positions of influence within international human rights bodies. The focus should be on the Cuban people and their right to freedom, democracy, free elections, freedom of expression, freedom of religion, and respect for human rights. The world must stop looking away. The Cuban people deserve freedom, dignity, and the opportunity to determine their own future. Cuba no es un destino turístico. Frente a las Naciones Unidas hoy, mi mensaje es simple: el mundo no puede seguir ignorando la realidad que vive el pueblo cubano. Por más de 67 años, el régimen cubano ha negado libertades fundamentales, ha encarcelado a disidentes, ha silenciado voces independientes y ha obligado a generaciones de cubanos a abandonar su patria en busca de libertad y oportunidades. Es una contradicción que un régimen señalado por numerosas organizaciones de derechos humanos por graves violaciones de los derechos humanos ocupe posiciones de influencia dentro de organismos internacionales dedicados precisamente a la defensa de esos derechos. The murderous communist socialist dictatorship of Cuba has spent more than 67 years keeping its people trapped in poverty, shortages, and oppression. While ordinary Cubans endure blackouts, hunger, and a lack of freedom, the murderous communist socialist dictatorship and its accomplices have learned how to profit from the needs of the people, turning dependency into a business model and a tool to remain in power. It is time to reject the ideology of dependency and stand for freedom, democracy, human rights, and economic opportunity. The Cuban people deserve the opportunity to build their own future without a dictatorship deciding their destiny. The days of impunity will not last forever. Those who have profited from the suffering of the Cuban people and those who continue to enable and defend this failed system should know that history always delivers its verdict. The regime in Havana has recruited, trained and backed violent Marxist and third-worldist movements across our hemisphere and beyond. Today, we are targeting the network that enables and funds Cuba's subversive and radical operations. Pursuant to sanctions authorities created by President Trump’s groundbreaking Cuba Executive Order, I am designating the following entities: 1. Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba (MINFAR) 2. Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) 3. Amistur Cuba S.A. 4. Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR) 5. Minera La Victoria S.A. Anyone providing services to these sanctioned actors is at risk of sanctions themselves. Foreign banks and other companies that provide services to these entities should freeze those activities. The Trump Administration will no longer tolerate radical Marxist regimes in our hemisphere seeking to threaten U.S. national security and engage in influence operations to export their poisonous and evil “revolution” to our country and around the world.
