#d34chat A5: one thing that has worked to support all learners is let them create their own rubrics! This allows them to set goals based on their individual levels. I also try to bring very diverse reading pieces in to our room in order to foster deep conversation!

A6: When I taught in a very diverse school, I had students celebrate their heritage through teaching the entire class about their favorite part of their culture. I included families to come in and help the student showcase a piece of their culture they were proud of!

Q5: I was lucky to work with a newcomer. I used visuals to = actions. I was animated for understanding. We practiced speaking together during g.r. I used letter a-z books and lots of pictures, matching and speaking. Lots of practicing,lots of laughing making learning fun #d34chat

#D34Chat A5: @MrsSpinasClass shared this with me once in a meeting and it really stuck! ALL students, regardless of EL level still need support! As they get more deeply integrated in academic vocabulary, they will need language supports as much as a Level 1 student!
