In their promo piece for NAZA, The Guardian - which just so happens to also be a producer of this "documentary" - claims, among other things, that "At one point, a source claims, approval was given to kill 500 NAZA for one Hamas member." Interestingly enough, a clip from the interview with this "source", released just a couple of days ago, shows that his actual claim was substantially different. He did not say 500 civilians "for one Hamas member", but 500 in a single airstrike - which, for all we know, could have targeted dozens of Hamas operatives, including senior commanders, or a major weapons cache (in which case, secondary explosions could potentially explain an unusually high expected death toll). But this is far from the end of the story. Abraham's "documentary" is essentially a follow-up to several articles he had published on the same subject over the last three years. And, curiously enough, none of those articles mention the figure 500. Yet exactly the same figure does appear in a December 2024 New York Times article about IDF targeting protocols - only there, the framing is completely different: "Strikes on military targets in Gaza... were permitted to cumulatively endanger up to 500 civilians each day." Not "kill 500", but "endanger up to 500". And not for one Hamas member, or even one strike - cumulatively across an entire day. Which raises an obvious question: did Abraham's "source" know what the 500 figure meant and deliberately misrepresent it, or was he repeating some second-hand information he had either misunderstood or misremembered? Neither answer reflects particularly well on the credibility of this "documentary".
