@ErinThurston1 A5: I agree w/ @ErinThurston1 on this. Some kids r motivated to do better w/ good grades, but low grades only frustrate, espec if sts are already trying hard. The ones that didn't care to put forth effort in the first place probably don't care abt a low grade anyway. #DLClearns

A2. Having students set their own goals and outline what affirmation they would like when they achieve each goal is a way to ensure make it more meaningful to the student. #DLClearns

A4: This chapter re-confirmed for me that not only are we doing sts a disservice in how we grade, but in how we are “doing school.” The system that worked 90 years ago no longer works for today’s student. We know better, we need to do better. #dlclearns

A9: I liked the line "we want to be advocates, not adversaries, and grading is not a gotcha enterprise" Clear expectations, constructive and frequent feedback, and self evaluation all lead to student mastery. #dlclearns

A5. I agree! There is some research that grades motivate some students (already motivated ones) but only for a short time, never long term. We need to strive for intrinsic motivation and grades don't help in that #DLClearns

A2. What can we do to increase their accuracy and make sure they are indicators of mastery? Standards based grading and only use summative grades, not adding in grades for behavior expectations-communicate those separately #DLClearns
