🌐 The Forgotten History of Europe’s #DogMeat Markets
When we think of dog meat consumption today, we often look towards certain Asian countries. However, European history reveals that during times of economic crisis, war, and poverty, dog meat was actively commercialized, regulated, and consumed right in the heart of Western Europe.
🇫🇷 #France: The Siege of Paris (1870–1871)
The most heavily documented market for canine meat in Europe occurred during the Franco-Prussian War.
• The Crisis (September 1870 – January 1971): Prussian forces placed Paris under a brutal four-month siege. As traditional food supplies collapsed, Paris turned to unconventional sources.
• Specialized butcher shops (boucheries de chiens et de chats) opened across the capital. A famous market operated on Rue Saint-Quentin, where canine meat was openly traded.
• It wasn't just food for the poor; high-end Parisian restaurants served it to the wealthy. Legitimate menus featured items like "Côtelettes de chien" (dog cutlets) and "Gigot de chien" (leg of dog).
• The Aftermath (1910): While consumption plummeted after the war, the practice did not vanish overnight. Official municipal records show that a small number of licensed butchers still legally sold dog meat in Paris as late as 1910.
🇩🇪 #Germany: The Era of Official Regulation (1892–1986)
Unlike France, where dog meat was primarily an emergency war food, Germany created a highly regulated, state-inspected industry that lasted deep into the 20th century.
• Imperial Meat Inspection (1892 & 1900): Germany passed federal laws requiring strict veterinary inspection for all slaughtered horses and dogs. This turned dog slaughter into a fully legal, taxed, and monitored industry.
• The practice was heavily concentrated in the industrial regions of Saxony (Sachsen), Silesia (Schlesien), and parts of Bavaria (Bayern). Cities like Chemnitz, Dresden, and Breslau (now Wrocław) had dedicated dog slaughterhouses.
• The Shocking Statistics (1905–1940): Official German Reich statistics show exactly how many dogs were legally slaughtered and stamped with official health seals:
• 1906: 4,249 dogs slaughtered under inspection.
• 1910: 6,389 dogs.
• 1918 (WWI Blockade): Consumption surged. Due to the British naval blockade, the poor resorted to dog meat, mockingly calling it "Blockadeschaf" (Blockade Sheep).
• 1923 (Hyperinflation): Numbers spiked again during the economic collapse.
• Between 1905 and 1940, official records track exactly 235,144 dogs legally slaughtered for food in Germany.
• The Trichinella Law (1937): Under the National Socialist regime, a revised Meat Inspection Act explicitly mandated Trichinella parasite testing for dogs, pigs, foxes, and badgers intended for human consumption.
• The Final Ban (1986): After World War II, rising living standards turned dogs into family pets. However, removing it from the law books took decades. After failed parliamentary attempts in 1954, 1963, and 1985, Germany finally amended its Meat Hygiene Act (Fleischhygienegesetz) in 1986, legally banning the slaughter and sale of dogs and cats for human consumption.
🇨🇭 Switzerland: The Alpine Tradition
While Germany and France banned the practice, Switzerland occupies a unique legal space in Europe.
• In rural, isolated Alpine regions—specifically the cantons of Appenzell, St. Gallen, Lucerne, and the Rhine Valley—canine meat was traditionally prepared as Mostbröckli (a form of marinated, smoked, and dried meat). Additionally, dog fat (Hundefett) was highly valued in Swiss folk medicine to treat respiratory illnesses like bronchitis.
• The Modern Legal Loophole: In 1992, the Swiss government banned the commercial sale of dog and cat meat. However, to this day, Swiss law does not prohibit individuals from slaughtering and consuming their own domestic animals for personal use, provided the animal is killed humanely.

2024 #China 🇨🇳 was made aware AGAIN by the #RestOfWorld that they had a huge retarded brained NPC problem of animal abusing youth and permissive parents that allow their boys and girls to t*rture cats and dogs, learned and reinforced by Chinese cooking #dogmeat and #Catmeat which involves unnecessary abuse
Animal abuse is free and keeps millions of Chinese 🇨🇳🇨🇳🇨🇳busy and satisfied and unaware of their empty existence, just making videos of themselves hurting animals for millions lof Chinese 🇨🇳🇨🇳🇨🇳 likes and even in hopes of donations.
One can only conclude that #AnimalAbuse is a desired component of #China 🇨🇳: There is no #ChinaAnimalProtectionLaw.

⚠️🇨🇳 China has a subculture growing in popularity: cat torture.
One of the most popular content creators in this genre, who popularised the "cat in blender trend", has made over $700k.
He hasn't faced any criminal charges though, because China has no laws against animals abuse.

🇰🇷#SouthKorea’s #DogMeat industry is entering its final summer before the country’s ban takes full effect on February 7, 2027.
Dog meat restaurants in Seoul’s Jongno district, once busy during the summer’s traditional “dog days,” are now seeing much quieter business as public attitudes change and the ban approaches.
More than 80% of dog farms have already closed, driving up wholesale prices and roughly doubling the cost of a bowl of dog meat in six months.
Some restaurant owners are transitioning to alternative businesses such as black goat restaurants, while others say the ban threatens their livelihoods.

What a disgrace that a global fast food chain can treat their consumers so badly. Sadly they are not alone. Chemicals are found in so many foods silently added without you realising. Younger generations are suffering for it right now. 😠 #JamieOliver #McDonalds #Poison #DogMeat
McDonald's loses lawsuit against chef Jamie Oliver, who proved that the food they sell is unfit for human consumption because it is highly toxic.
Chef Jamie Oliver won a lawsuit against the world's largest fast-food chain.
Oliver demonstrates how hamburgers are made.
According to Oliver, fatty cuts of meat are "washed" with ammonium hydroxide and then used to fill the hamburger patties. Even before this process, the TV presenter says, this meat was unfit for human consumption.
Oliver, a radical activist chef taking on the food industry, says:
"We are talking about meat that is sold as dog food and then served to humans. Aside from the quality of the meat, ammonium hydroxide is harmful to health." Oliver calls it "the pink slime process."
What sane person would put a piece of meat soaked in ammonium hydroxide into a child's mouth?
This might be crazier than I thought
In another initiative, Oliver demonstrated how chicken nuggets are made: After the "best parts" are selected, the rest—fat, skin, cartilage, eyes, bones, head, feet—is subjected to a mechanical separation process called "Canica"—a euphemism used by food engineers. This blood-pink paste, which is deodorized, bleached, refreshed, and re-colored, is then coated in flour and deep-fried. It is typically fried in partially hydrogenated oils—in other words, toxic substances.
The food industry uses ammonium hydroxide as an antimicrobial agent, allowing McDonald's to use meat in its hamburgers that is unfit for human consumption. Even more alarming, however, is the fact that these ammonium-hydrogen-based substances are considered "legal components of the production process" in the global food industry, with the approval of health authorities. Consequently, consumers will never know what substances are in their food.
Please stop giving this fake food to your children.

After 22 Years, Major Dog Meat Producer Pulls the Plug❗

A company that spent two decades promoting dog meat as a local specialty has officially cancelled its food production license. After 22 years of business, Peixian FanKuai Dog Meat Food Co. is no longer licensed to produce the dog meat products it once sold in local stores and airport gift shops.
And today, a company that once invoked tradition and protection of local culture to defend its cruel business has officially ended its production phase.
But we need to be clear about what this does and does not mean.

#BoycottChina until it puts an end to this Hell!

An ordinary young man in China has been steadily buying and rescuing dogs. Despite having limited funds and space, he rescued five dogs that day from a truckload—each costing 24,000 yen. Since 1,000 yuan is about 24,000 yen, and these dogs arrive every single month, he pleaded with the owners, “Please don’t kill them.”
