Here my summary in Spanish about my experience in @DigPedLab this week #DPLintro #digped Thanks to the organizers for a week full of learning and questions https://t.co/yzyMCkNbSu
@BrianJKMiller @NatashaCaseyIRL @gowellja @BravardDr *Love* that idea. Wish I’d had that in my history classes growing up — kind of like a science fair for history. Great way to encourage deep dives. #DPLIntro
Alas, we’ve reached the top of the hour, and our #DPLIntro chat has reached its conclusion. Thanks to all who participated!
For those registered in the course, remember our next Office Hours, today at a new time: 8p EDT / 6p MDT!
Thanks, everyone!
@BravardDr I wholeheartedly agree with you. I also know the abysmal track record of “trickle-down” anything. The need for FT instructors to support and advocate for contingent labor means we need to train/motivate FT faculty. #DPLIntro
@staylorHistory I’m of the opinion that nearly everything an adjunct does is a risk, considering the lack of obligation felt by the institution. Quietly in one direction, perhaps, but for the students, we should probably be more active/loud. #DPLIntro
@NatashaCaseyIRL Ah, so aligning with — or drawing attention to — existing organizations that students might not yet use? #DPLIntro
@KimFoxWOSU @chris_friend Definitely! Looking forward to new knowledge and perspective is a great started #DPLintro #digped
@gowellja Hmmm. Similar to the social causes of health, right? Clean water, non-smoking buildings, etc. Harder to see/enact, but greater outcomes. #DPLintro
@chris_friend A3: Active engagement in diff communities. Recently I began to attend diff intl confs so that I could meet diff ppl and have exposure to diff ideals/approaches to pedagogy and creative work. It's not activism, but it could lead to thoughtfully challenging status quo. #DPLintro
@BravardDr @staylorHistory @DigPedLab @TheJLV Absolutely. As a middle-class cisgendered white dude, I’m usually the last person I want to listen to about issues of justice in class. Sounds like teachers facilitate listening and thinking about, then help with the activating? #DPLIntro
@chris_friend We definitely need some OER for this one. And could be interesting, as I saw some discussion about it, that educators and students worked together to create this kind of material. #DPLintro #digped
@KimFoxWOSU @chris_friend @audreywatters I also ask: How can we help our students to get the edtech that they need? Or the resources that could link them to that tech? #DPLintro #digped
@chris_friend @audreywatters A2: I'll tackle this from a diff angle: the surveillance software provides an entry to activism. How do we discourage admin from purchasing it? How to we enable colleagues w/alternative methods of assessment to avoid those edtech tools? #DPLintro #digped
@KimFoxWOSU @gowellja @DigPedLab @TheJLV Occasionally, we have conversations about diff btwn “listen” and “hear” — aligning meaning emphasizes intention. #DPLIntro
@staylorHistory @chris_friend @DigPedLab @TheJLV Me neither, but I believe that being a human and making decisions from that position could imply the same kind of justices for all... Maybe I'm wrong... #DPLintro #digped
@audreywatters If we use tools to amplify student voices (rather than teachers’ agendas), we all practice the work of activism and learn to use the tools for just causes. #DPLIntro #digped
@chris_friend @gowellja @DigPedLab @TheJLV Just listening to students is useful to create an environment of openness. Whether they want to vent or bounce around an idea, they want to feel seen/heard. That gesture will open other doors potentially for activism. #DPLintro #digped
