Grateful for leadership of @GovKathyHochul
in supporting survivors. URI VP Government Affairs, Lauren Schuster & VP People & Culture, Elyse Barbell spoke with her about partnering to strengthen safety and stability for our staff, residents & participants. #DVsupport #NYGov

Support is a lifeline for those facing domestic violence. Reach out to friends, family, or helplines. Together, we can create safe spaces, break the chains of silence, and build a community that stands against abuse. #DVSupport
Breaking the silence is a powerful step in overcoming domestic violence. Encourage survivors to express their emotions openly and seek support. #BreakTheSilence #DVSupport
Where's the DV support message at the end of the doc? He abused his girlfriend, yet the documentary portrays him as some mythical, courageous figure rejecting society on principle . Seriously? GTFOH! #theycalledhimmostlyharmless #DVsupport

This doesn’t surprise me. I managed to not use the “shelter” option, but (#SeeMyBlog) the #DVorgs haven’t been exactly upfront with women, especially women with children, over the years. I also found that once my case hit family courts, all support from the #DVsupport groups vanished (although some of us women remained friends and provided real support, not just theoretical). Among those, I remember one woman who had been terrified because her ex was a police officer. I got a panicked call from her FROM a shelter one time (I couldn’t help) and she’d decided they were just not safe places.
Separately, I’d also heard that officers sometimes just dropped off women at the shelters rather than in prison, including some with drug problems. That is of course hearsay.
But, my posts and analysis looking at the funding — and the language of said “#FamilyCourtReformists being inane (oxymoron, guaranteed to fail policies to further build-up and establish 1) the family court systems and 2) both DV and Fatherhood (fathers’ rights) consulting and training organizations — and at public expense. Allegedly resolving conflict when CONFLICT is the commodity….
So it’s interesting to hear you say this. I of course don’t know specifically who or what you were dealing with, however, my means of analysis is to take a look at the level of honesty from things that are NOT hearsay, and very, well, illuminating — and that’s the organizations (individually, collectively) filing and reporting habits, which definitely gets interesting.
Impromptu response, also just wanted to repost this message.
I have spent this week fighting against people who I thought were fighting alongside us mothers. Actually, it's been going on for more than a week.
People who campaign for women's rights, but are turning out to be selling out women's rights.
Or even actually selling women.
After raising concerns about the trafficking of women through domestic abuse shelters, a third person has confirmed that this is happening - that victims are selected through DA shelters in Croatia. From what I hear from the UK and USA I suspect it is happening there too.
The response of the women's sector was "Report it to the police".
My question: Which police? The ones which are participating in this?
There are people fighting battles because they have built careers out of them. So the battle becomes an end in itself, rather than a means to a better future. And in the meantime, they expect people to fall to their knees in gratitude and scatter petals at their feet.
If there's one thing I can't stand, it's people who are self-congratulatory. Or have a Messiah complex. OK, that's two things.
Recently a small number of people have said thank you to me for speaking out and giving them hope, or just for believing them and not shunning them.
I am glad they feel like that, but being thanked makes me feel embarrassed.
I just want this nightmare to end and for our children to come home.

At WIN House we value creating plans to support residents and those in need beyond the walls of our shelters.
