It's official! Today, Somalia marked the official launch of its #DecentWork Country Programme (#DWCP) with a well-attended event in Mogadishu. The occasion was graced by the presence of the Acting President of #Somalia and the Speaker of the House of People @AadanMadobe.
In a tripartite partnership involving the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, the Federation of Somali Trade Unions and the Somali Chamber of Commerce and Industry, with crucial support from the International Labour Organization (@ILO), the DWCP, signed by the tripartite constituents and the ILO on 10 June 2023, is geared towards tackling the particular challenges Somalia encounters in guaranteeing decent work for all.
Decent work holds immense benefits for Somalia's working people and economy. It means providing opportunities for meaningful employment, fair wages and social protection. It also involves fostering dialogue between #workers, #employers and the #government to ensure that everyone's voice is heard and respected in the workplace.
In Somalia, where issues like unemployment, underemployment and informal work are prevalent, the DWCP seeks to make a real difference. By promoting decent work, it aims to create a more stable and prosperous society, where Somali people have the opportunity to build better lives for themselves and their families.
Furthermore, the DWCP aligns with Somalia's broader national development goals, contributing to poverty reduction, social cohesion and sustainable economic growth. By investing in decent work, Somalia is investing in its future, laying the foundation for a more inclusive and resilient society.

DG @Yusuf_Wadani extends a heartfelt welcome to esteemed guests at the #DWCP launch! Among those greeted are distinguished gov’t officials from federal & FMS levels, international partners, labor union advocates, and key figures from Somalia’s private sector. #Decentwork
