I'm often asked, “Pierre, you're in the AI business, but what exactly is artificial intelligence ? ”
To this question (essential one when talking about new techs!) I first reply: " “Exactly”, no, you can't say “exactly” what AI is, because it can take many different forms. "
So obviously here I'm listing the various well-known levels of AI (Narrow AI - limited AI, General AI - human similar - & Super Intelligence - everywhere better than humans).
But the most important thing about AI is not the AI, no, the most important thing is the data!
If we understand this, then we can think more deeply about all the challenges (positive or negative) we face when considering artificial intelligence entities.
We humans work with data, every day, every second. And we try to organize that data (by analyzing and resoning) to get through our days. And so does AI, with a great deal of analytical power thanks to #MachineLearning, but this same machine learning also lacks a great deal of reasoning power when it comes to organizing decision-making on this data. Therein lies the heart of modern AI... how to reconcile the statistical data processing of machine learning (from which today's large language models & #GenAI are derived) with human-level reasoning concerning... for the moment -even if announcements by Big Techs of releases in the coming months of AI entities endowed with high reasoning level are multiplying- we're a long way from a super intelligence, the reasoning of the most advanced AIs is no better than that of a 5-year-old child...
