The #Dow jumped as much as 568 points from its low to its high before ending the day just 87 points higher after a late-day reversal. The S&P and tech-heavy Nasdaq each lost about 0.33% after being much higher earlier in the afternoon. All eyes will watch Apple earnings after the bell on Thursday as bulls await a stock to save the broader market from its recent volatility. Six of eleven S&P sectors closed green. Utilities +1.15% led, and energy -1.59% lagged.
The Japanese #Yen remainsย extremelyย volatile, with the Bank of Japanโs position report revealing that it stepped in to support the currency this week. Additionally, crude oil prices are crumbling in the near term, dragging the rest of the energy complexย with it.
#Gold rebounded yesterday from nearly one-month lows (~$2281) but stalled around $2329. It is trading heavier today but in yesterdayโs range.
June #WTI broke down yesterday, falling to almost $78.80, its lowestย levelย since mid-March. It has steadied today butย so farย has been unable to resurface above $80.

It wasย aย roughย dayย across all asset classes following hotter-than-expected wage growth and housing market data.ย #Inflation concerns continue to weigh on the market, with Amazonโs earnings after the bell unable to bail the bulls out. The S&P dropped 1.57% to close at 5,035.69, the Dow fell 570 points or 1.5%, and the Nasdaq lost just over 2% to close at 15,657.82. All eleven S&P sectors closed red. Healthcare -0.08% led, and energy -2.98% lagged.
#Gold fell to almost four-week lows near $2281 before catching a bid today and recovering through $2290. The upside in North America looks limited today.

U.S. #equity markets changed little on Wednesday as higher yields dampened investorsโ enthusiasm from a strong slate of corporate earnings. The S&P squeezed out a 0.2% gain to close at 5,071. The DOW slipped 42 points or 0.11%, and the Nasdaq closed 0.1% higher. Treasury yields rose, pressuring stocks. Eight of the eleven S&P sectors closed green. Consumer discretionary +0.96% led, and technology -0.80% lagged.ย The U.S. 10-year topped 4.67%, while the 2-year pushed slightly over 4.95%.
#Treasury yields dip ahead of US GCP data. The 10-year is off 1bps to 4.648%, and the 2-year yields around 4.925%.

Markets got hit with bad news Friday as inflation and geopolitical worries once again dented sentiment. JPM, the biggest bank in the U.S., gave an underwhelming forecast for NII this year, saying it expects it to be roughly flat as higher deposit costs start to bite. The University of Michiganโs consumer confidence report edged lower while inflation expectations for the year ticked up. The Dow lost 475 points or 1.24%, closing at 37,983. The S&P and Nasdaq lost 1.5% and 1.6% respectively. Treasury yields, which had been rising due to inflation fears, fell back a little amid safe-haven bond buying. The yield in the U.S. 10-year dropped 7bps to 4.49%. All eleven S&P sectors closed red. Utilities -0.76% led, and materials -1.77% lagged.
U.S. equity #futures are up around 50bps.
#Treasury yields are higher, the U.S. 10y up 7bps to yield 4.571%, and the 2-year is up 5bps to 4.938%.
#Gold prices are up 0.6% to $2,357.
U.S. crude #oil was lower by 0.74% to $84.45 as traders breathed a sigh of relief.

Major indices were changed a little on the second day as Wall Street braces for Wednesdayโs #CPI report. The S&P lost 0.14% to close at 5,209.91, the #Nasdaq gained 0.32%, while the #Dow lost 13 points in six of the last seven sessions. Nine of the eleven S&P sectors closed green. Real estate +1.27% led, and financials -0.57% lagged.
#Gold continued its run, hitting $2,378, a new all-time high. It isnโt clear whatโs driving the shiny metal higher, especially as markets are beginning to doubt whether the Fed can deliver three rate cuts this year. Geopolitical tensions are a good candidate, with central banks such as China adding to their gold reserves. #Commodities, in general, are having a good time of it; along with Gold, you have Copper, Oil, Gasoline, and Iron Ore also rising. Economic strength in the U.S. and China is starting to rebound, which is helping to support prices. However, the downside is that they add to the inflation picture and threaten to rekindle inflation fears.
May #WTI peaked at the end of last week at around $87.65 and fell to a low near $84.70 on Monday. It is consolidating in a narrow range today above $85.

Overnight, #Equities were stronger. Among the large markets, only Taiwan fell in the Asia Pacific region. South Koreaโs Kospi surged by more than 1.2% to lead the advancing markets. Hong Kong and mainland markets were closed.
Europeโs #SXXP edged higher, and the U.S. index futures are 0.25% -0.50 % better.
European benchmark 10-year yields are off 2-5 bps, with the periphery outperforming the core. In contrast, the two- and 10-year Treasury yields are slightly firmer.
#Gold rose to a new high near $2304 before a bout of profit-taking was seen that pushed it back to around $2290.

The Dow and S&P closed lower on the first day of the new quarter. The Dow dipped 240 points or 0.60%, while the S&P lost 0.20% to close at 5,243. The Nasdaq inched higher by 0.11%. Treasury yields rose following a rebound in the manufacturing sector. Although it was a boost for the economy, the rise in raw material prices suggests that goods inflation may pick up in the months ahead. Goods deflation was the main driver of the inflation last year.
The firm #dollar and higher rates have not deterred gold buying. It reached a new record high, slightly below $2267.
May #WTI is also taking another leg higher, encouraged perhaps by the better PMIs but also news that Mexico will be cutting Mayan crude exports to boost domestic gasoline and diesel output. It is a sour crude, and the cut in exports comes as the U.S. reimposes sanctions on Venezuela, which is also a source of sour crude oil. May WTI is rising above $85, last yearโs high.

US #yields are a little softer. The 10-year yield is off a little more than a basis point to 4.19%, and the two-year yield is off almost 3bps to 4.59%.
$Gold has extended its pre-weekend rally. It gapped higher and rose to a new record high near $2265.75 before stabilizing around $2250. The gap extended to the pre-weekend high, slightly below $2232.
May #WTI also extended its gains to reach $83.60, its highest level since last October. It rose 3.15% last week, its third consecutive weekly advance.

With #BTC up nearly 5% in the past 24 hours (trading near $68,900 on Uphold Ascent), Bitcoin dominance is currentlyย 51.86%, an increase ofย 0.18%ย over the day.
Time flies when youโre in a #bull market. The last week of the first quarter is upon us, and stocks have had a stellar start to the year. So far this morning, stocks are taking a breath. According to JPM strategists, global stocks need both earnings growth and central bank policy easing to defend current high valuations.
The #dollar is consolidating today after surging at the end of last week. Stepped-up verbal intervention by Japanโs currency chief Kanda and a slightly weaker dollar fix by the PBOC seemed to take the wind from the dollarโs sails. Except for the Swiss franc and Swedish krona, the G10 currencies are showing a slightly firmer tone.
Europeโs SXXP is a little softer and has a nine-week rally in tow. It has only fallen in two weeks since mid-November 2023.
U.S. index futures are also sporting a softer profile.
Benchmark 10-year yields are almost 2-3 bps firmer in Europe. The 10-year U.S. Treasury yield slipped for the past four sessions (~13 bps) and is coming back about two basis points firmer near 4.22%. The two-year yield is around 4.61%, which is about a dozen basis points lower than a week ago.
#Gold is consolidating in quiet turnover inside the pre-weekend range (~$2157-$2186). Similarly, May WTI is within last Fridayโs range, which was within last Thursdayโs range (~$80-$82).
