The Trump administration fired a Seattle U.S. attorney less than an hour after federal judges appointed him to the job.
Roger Rogoff, a 57-year-old former King County Superior Court judge and longtime prosecutor, was sworn in before 8 a.m. local time at the federal courthouse in downtown Seattle. He then went to meet with the Trump administration's preferred official — and while waiting in the lobby, received an email notifying him he'd been removed from office.
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche announced the firing on X while testifying before the Senate in his own confirmation hearings, writing: "District court judges can appoint a temporary U.S. Attorney, and POTUS can fire them."
