Happening in a bit...our High-Level Strategic Breakfast Meeting with @TrustAfrica! The meeting takes stock of progress on the #AUTOTY2025: #reparations, while also looking ahead to the African Union #DecadeOfReparations. It brings together senior policymakers, members of the diplomatic corps, development partners, civil society leaders, philanthropies, multilateral institutions, and private sector stakeholders to consolidate learning, exchange perspectives, and reinforce collective commitment to the principles and objectives underpinning the African Union’s reparatory #justice agenda. We are now in the African Union #DecadeOfReparations! The AU has officially established 2026–2036 as the Decade of Reparations, escalating the 2025 "Year of Reparations" into a 10-year, continent-wide commitment to seek justice for slavery and colonization.

At the recently concluded 2nd Africa–@CARICOMorg Summit, leaders underlined the central role of the African diaspora in advancing the @_AfricanUnion’s 2025 #YearOfReparations & #DecadeOfReparations! The #diaspora is not only supportive but a direct stakeholder and beneficiary of the #reparations agenda. Its role can be seen in five ways: 1️⃣ Direct Stakeholders: The #AUTOTY2025 names Africans and people of African descent, placing the diaspora as co-owners of the reparations agenda. 2️⃣ Policy Influence and Advocacy: Diaspora communities hold political weight in countries that once profited from slavery and colonialism, pressing for recognition and #justice. 3️⃣ Participation in AU Structures: Through the African Union ECOSOCC and CIDO, diaspora organizations can take part in AU meetings and contribute to policy on reparations. 4️⃣ Capacity and Resources: Diaspora networks bring expertise, research, funding, and partnerships that strengthen the AU’s strategy. 5️⃣ Bridging Movements: The diaspora links #Africa’s demands with global justice struggles, making reparations a worldwide call. In short, the diaspora is co-architect, advocate, and amplifier of Africa’s reparations agenda; turning history into a global demand for justice!
