White victimhood narrative in South Africa is challenged by Interim Executive Director of the IJR, Fanie Du Toit. He spoke to @ReutersAfrica & argued that data doesn't support the claim that white South Africans as a group are oppressed.

Happy Africa Day !
Last week in Banjul, Gambia, I delivered an observer statement to the @achpr_cadhp at the 87th Ordinary Session, on behalf of @afrobarometer .
The focus: the Right to Water.
@afrobarometer data is clear, water insecurity is increasing across Africa. Citizens in country after country report growing challenges accessing clean, reliable water. These are not abstract statistics; they are the daily lived experiences of millions.
Advocacy grounded in evidence matters. When we bring citizen data to continental human rights bodies, we give communities a seat at the table, even when they cannot be in the room.
Want to explore the findings further?
@afrobarometer and @Econ_Network (E4T) are hosting a webinar this Tuesday 26 May 2026:

“A system that excludes two-thirds of the world can never truly speak for the world.”
In this powerful conversation, Tim Murithi unpacks the deep fractures within today’s international collective security system, from the paralysis of the UN Security Council during Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, to the continued exclusion of Africa from permanent global decision-making spaces.
Drawing from Africa’s historical experience and political reality, he asks a difficult but necessary question: how can a system claim legitimacy when the very people most affected are left without a seat at the table?
With over 60% of the UN Security Council’s agenda focused on Africa, yet no permanent African representation, Prof. Murithi argues that reform is no longer optional, but urgent.
These are exactly the kinds of conversations we hope to deepen during the Winter School hosted by UAZA and partners in August 2026.
If you are an academic, researcher, lecturer, or PhD student working on international relations, security, history, human rights, or Africa–Ukraine cooperation - apply for the Winter School on Ukraine and African Futures.
