If you have a story you'd like to share on behalf of a loved one, or if you know someone currently incarcerated who would want to talk with us, have them call (314) 643-8773, and leave a message.⁣ #decarcerateSTL cc: @CLOSEWorkhouse

Being incarcerated should not be a death sentence, but with the rise of #COVID19, it's become just that. We started a series called #DecarcerateSTL, featuring stories from people in jail as well as their loved ones who are directly impacted by this public health crisis... 1/3⁣

In +2yrs, #STL @bailproject has reduced the # of people caged in #STLCity jails. As #COVID19 rises, so do our advocacy efforts to #decarcerateSTL. S/O @CLOSEWorkhouse, @ActionSTL & many statewide orgs calling on public officials to prevent the spread of COVID19 in jails & beyond.

COVID-19 cases inside Cook County Jail are skyrocketing. In response, we have mobilized Bail Project staff from all over the country to support our Chicago team and begin an emergency mass bailout. https://t.co/O6lCY5gvvn

This is a really great first step for a City that spends more on a per capita basis on an ineffective arrest/incarcerate model of public safety than nearly any other city in this country. #DecarcerateSTL

Ways and Means just voted to reduce the police overtime budget by $800k to shift money to #CureViolence and other proactive rather than reactive public safety measures. #PuttingPeopleFirst
