An 83-year-old woman in Thorntonhall, Lanarkshire was held at gunpoint with a knife to her throat in her own home by an illegal immigrant who broke in while she and her husband were having lunch. Chirag Solanki, 27 (expired student visa, wanted by the Home Office), was armed with an imitation firearm, a 5-inch knife, cable ties, duct tape and a balaclava. He forced her upstairs before fleeing when police were called. He later told officers he had lost his job and was looking for money. He has now admitted the charges. Even pensioners in their own homes are no longer safe. This is what failure to enforce the rules looks like.
