Yesterday Nym's head of communities @sudonymuss took part in a panel at #Devcon20204 as part of @Logos_network and @Codex_storage 's Decentralized Data Summit with @sterlinlujan @TBSocialist and @SCBuergel Here's the takeaways 👇 🧠Almost all our data is subject to US surveillance whether we reside in the USA or not. Our data is stored in clouds, 60% of the cloud market is AWS, Google and Microsoft. These are all American companies - which means that almost all of our data is subject to the Patriot Act, so whether we have anything to do with the states or not, we can be surveilled by the US. 🧠Decentralized data solutions are safe from censorship and surveillance Well-implemented decentralized data storage solutions raise data above jurisdictions, both technically/physically, and also legally. Decentralized data solutions are safe from censorship too - we have seen worrying trends over the years in terms of internet censorship. They make data difficult/impossible to aggregate user data and metadata, which is the main vehicle of corporate and government surveillance today. 🧠UX is critical if we want to drive mass adoption of highly complex decentralized technologies As always, UX is critical. We start from a disadvantage, as all decentralized technologies do due to their complexity. That complexity has to be abstracted away from the user for mass adaption. For example, a Nym payment system is one click, abstracted below it is a zk payment system which fully dissociates usage from person. But the user doesn't even have to know.
