1/4 #DigSesh2 #WSTC7 Time-lapse cameras (TLC, Brinno MAC200 and Moultrie s50i) were tested at 7 PEBO colonies along the coast of Peru (2016-2020) to test reliability and accuracy in determining breeding phenology, reproductive success and duration of feeding trips.

4/4 #DigSesh2 #WSTC7 Chick-rearing PEBO were color marked in the breast (cattle crayon-3 weeks), tagged with GPS and followed with TLC. The duration of absences from the nest (calculated from TLC) was highly correlated to the duration of the feeding trip (calculated from GPS)

3/4 #WSTC7 #DigSesh2 | Whereas HG detection (96%) was not affected by camera quality and flying height, this played an important role in the detection of LBG (71%). Adding a TIR camera reduced in 40% the amount of false positives.

2/4 #WSTC7 #DigSesh2 | We used a semi-automatic method to count a breeding colony of Herring (HG) and Lesser Black-backed Gulls (LBG), and tested the effect of camera quality and flying height on the efficacy of the method and whether using thermal cameras improved detection.
