Thank you to all at the #DisabilityJournalismForum today - esp @ShaniDhanda and @SaimaMohsin .
Just flagging that this is me, because I was mistakenly tagged as a Texas sportscaster and televangelist named Max Preston earlier (and for once, I'm not kidding!)
Please reach out!

#ICYMI our commissioner Su-Mei Thompson was invited to speak at #DisabilityJournalismForum.
We have long called for the right to flexible working to be provided from day one as it unlocks professional opportunities for disabled people to gain or maintain employment.
Should stories on disability only be reported on by people with disabilities? Would that pigeon hole reporters who could bring so much to more mainstream topics? @heloisebeatonTV, @samcarlisle, @Martidougan2012 & @sumeithompson1 have a lot to say on the matter.

Yesterday was the first ever Disability Journalism Forum at @NewsUK. It was a massive success highlighting issues of how journalism is under represented in the media world workplace and beyond. Thank you for hosting and thank you to all the founders.

A great deal of yesterday's discussion at the #DisabilityJournalismForum was excellent but a couple of comments sat very uncomfortably with me. This is not a criticism of the individuals and I won't identify them because it is a reflection of internalised #ableism
What a day! Our first #DisabilityJournalismForum hosted by @NewsUK was impassioned, informative & loaded with so much practical advice for employers in the media industry. Fantastic to have co-curated and co-chaired with a brilliant team of young disabled journalists & experts.

My day started with me helping our @NUJofficial delegation get their speeches ready for day two of #TICDisabled.
I then joined the #DisabilityJournalismForum to talk about retaining and supporting disabled staff. Great event and I met some fabulous people.

That’s a wrap! Our first-ever #DisabilityJournalismForum was ended with closing remarks from @samcarlisle 🎤

Our fantastic life as a disabled journalist panel with @katydocherty, @Lucy_Webster_, @_JordanJBryan and Sylvia Chengo 🎤
#DisabilityJournalismForum

“We want to increase the number of disabled journalists…it is vital.”
-@samcarlisle
Yes. That. Enough Said.

#DiversifyTheMedia
“How many stories do we see about disabled people that ignore the social model?” asks @Lucy_Webster_ cutting to the chase (again) @DisJournoForum
#DisabilityJournalismForum #Journalism
Sun features writer @katydocherty who was diagnosed with MS last year tells #DisabilityJournalismForum her colleagues have been “amazing”, says time management is important and that there is work to do on perceptions around employing disabled people. #Accessibility #Journalism
Question from the floor at #DisabilityJournalismForum highlighting how difficult it can be for some differently-abled journalists to work freelance. Panel member @Lucy_Webster_ says freelance work suits her but agrees everyone has distinct requirements.
“We need more disabled editors” @Lucy_Webster_ tells #DisabilityJournalismForum. “We are good at getting people in at entry level but really bad at promoting them.”
