I'm still going to have to watch Mulan because #DisneyDissertation, but wow will I be doing so under great protest. If you thought Disney couldn't get *more* problematic...
This isn't a fully formed thought yet--so few thoughts feel fully formed these days!--but I'm fascinated by the cosplay, storytelling, + character creation happening on TikTok. (Esp since people can't go to cons, etc.) Definitely some #DisneyDissertation inspo to be found there!
I'm in awe of the smart, subversive ways fans break and remake Disney characters. I never want to stop seeing fans create queer Princesses, non-white Princesses, disabled Princesses...
But I'd still love to see more of those Princesses IN CANON and ON SCREEN. #DisneyDissertation
Artists/cosplayers/etc disrupting the Disney narrative by creating their own representation is a huge and vital part of #DisneyDissertation. I'm so inspired by how fans explore gender, race, body type, and other facets of identity via (re)interpretations of Disney characters.
