@opdroid1234 @AmericanIndic Whenever I see the term "kalesh" on desi social media to describe some deliberate or unintended insult comedy from the streets or from an e-lafda, I'm only reminded of the "kleśa" lowdown in Yogasūtra 2:03-09! 🙈🙉🙊

The 5th is on display all too often in super-seniors who ought to know better but can't let go.

@TheTiaraSlipped Lovely picture, but I was looking at it and thinking “purse, what purse? I can’t see any purse…”. Then I twigged, you must have been referring to her handbag

@Nick_Offerman I’m almost afraid to ask, Nick, but what is my ‘bippy’? 🤷🏼♂️

Can any Americans confirm that they say a party "came into power" when they actually mean "won a single seat at a by-election and promptly lost it again"?

@STRIKINGxVIKING Beanbag, as a verb, sounds like it should be fun. I’m sure in the context of your tweet,it is not. #dividedbyacommonlanguage.
I've noticed that Americans 'rock up to' (meaning 'arrive at'), but Brits 'roll up for'. #LANGUAGE #dividedbyacommonlanguage #English
@GentsGamePod @John_D_Lake @BrentleyGC @Daniel_Rapaport I think that type of dry northern humour seems not to translate well over in the US...... #dividedbyacommonlanguage
@CoreyMiles__ There appears to be some transnational issues regarding definition. In the UK and other areas it means the exact opposite of the US meaning. #DividedByACommonLanguage its possible that Australian, New Zealid and Canadian folks follow the British meaning maybe others too...?

took me far too many tweets before I twigged that they're talking about "gas prices" in the sense of petrol. #dividedbyacommonlanguage

I preemptively apologize for the cursing today. @Wrexham_AFC
When I’ve been saying to my team that I regularly go to a quiz it’s sounded like I take exams for fun because in the US a quiz is a test not a bunch of trivia questions. Gave me a really hard core image but I’m not that dedicated #dividedbyacommonlanguage
Yesterday I told my husband I was "giving it🧦". Turns out it's another expression that doesn't translate well. Went down a rabbit hole of some others. My fav? Not knowing "all over the shop".☘️🇺🇸 #dividedbyacommonlanguage
Interesting new addition to the list of US/U.K. #DividedByACommonLanguage. ‘Fulsome’ definitely means complete or overflowing in England. But apparently disgusting in the US (and Scotland). Huh.
I know I'm losing this fight, but "fulsome" means "disgusting" not "complete." It's derived from "foul" not "full."
I was telling my wife that I had my first mask dream last night - an anxiety dream about forgetting to take it with me. She looked confused. Turned out she though I said "mosque dream". She's American, I'm English.

@HanrattyDave @NoEncoreShow @Zara_Hedderman @CraigySlane On Phoebe Bridgers and ‘saving the middle class’ ... it’s an American thing. What they refer to as their middle classes is the equivilent of our working classes. They don’t use the term ‘working class’ coz, I dunno, they see it as communist or something. #DividedByACommonLanguage
@DaniePrecisa @ICantEven001 I had to laugh at this... the way I read it, you translated so they could talk to each other! :D #dividedbyacommonlanguage
Just watched this week’s SRAH, and @thebrianfallon and @steadycraig were talking about rewriting a song so many times it had no original lines. It made me sad that Americans have no phrase for ‘Trigger’s Broom’!
