In #China, domestic consumption and #profits of micro enterprises are still #falling as they struggle with rising #operatingcosts.
With declining domestic consumption, the "#DualCirculation" #macroeconomic plan sought by #XiJinping in an attempt to achieve #Beijing's #selfsufficiency is in serious trouble; today's #China is increasingly dependent on its exports to #Western countries.
This is the "strength" that #democratic countries should exploit in their trade relations with #Beijing.

Peking University report: #Chineseconsumption is weak and it is #difficult for #smallbusinesses to do business and continue and be operational.
A survey report published by Peking University's Big Data Research Center and others showed that the operating income and profit margins of Chinese #small and #micro operators in the #secondquarter #declined compared with the same period last year. Weak market demand is the main pain point in operating activity. The #confidenceindex in the third quarter decreased compared with the second quarter.
Most of the small and micro operators are concentrated in the service sector (76 percent), with a small number distributed in #manufacturing and #construction (13 percent) and #agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishing (11 percent); 60 percent of the small and micro operators were born after 1980, more than 80 percent of those born after 1990 have a high school diploma or higher. The main types of small and micro operators are self-employed or employing 0 to 4 people (81.3%).
The average turnover of small and micro operators was #RMB 117,000 (about NT$526,500), with an annual rate of decline of 2.0%; the average net profit margin was 4.7%, down 0.8 percentage points from the same period last year; and the flow of small and micro operators lasts an average of 2.8 months.
Weak market demand is the main pain point for small and micro operators to which is added a substantial increase in #operatingcosts.
The report's conclusion states that small and micro operators have experienced shrinking revenues and continue to be concerned about cost pressures.
Reducing costs by reducing staff hiring and lowering wages could exacerbate the weak economic recovery.
The data were compiled by Peking University's China Social Science Survey Center on Enterprise Big Data, the Ant Group Research Institute and MYbank, which recently released the "China Small and Micro Operators Survey Second Quarter Report of 2024" and the "China Small and Micro Operators Confidence Index for the Third Quarter of 2024."
