#DurbarMove restoration in J&K is an idea that will be welcomed by many in Jammu. However, the ones welcoming it are missing the woods for the trees.
Those thinking that markets and trade in Jammu division will be revived are grossly mistaken. Rest assured, no benefit of accrued by Jammu. This is just a step driven by optics and nothing else.
Just think about it - when the tourists are directly travelling to Srinagar come hail or high water, what is the incentive to stop at Jammu? Do they have to take any special permissions from the government of the union territory, for which they will need to halt in Jammu in the winters?
What should have happened is the separation of Jammu to create a new Union Territory right now. But this voice will now get drowned in the false euphoria that will get created with the durbar move's restoration. Sadly, people in Jammu will learn the lesson the hard way.
What was the #DurbarMove ?
The Durbar Move was not just about administration. It was about people, about livelihoods, and about the shared prosperity of our communities. We must never forget its significance!
