Red is very much one of the colours of #Christmas.
This strikingly red #AdventDoor is brought to you today from West Stockwell Street (formerly Angel Lane) in the #DutchQuarter here in #Colchester, #BritainsFirstCity.

There are now a couple less bits of #graffiti marring #Colchester's historic #DutchQuarter after we reported them to the folk @YourColchester who quickly sorted things.
Thanks guys.

Today's #AdventWindows can be found at the Gll listed #PeakesHouse in the #DutchQuarter.
Originally three cottages at the centre of #Colchester's cloth trade, the long mullioned windows were designed to give light to the weavers at their looms.

#Colchester's Dutch Quarter was named after the Flemish refugees fleeing religious persecution that settled there. The wool weaving techniques they brought with them significantly boosted the town's economy. More here: https://t.co/LiOcKJrVBI

The #DutchQuarter is a fantastic example of #Colchester's rich and mixed architectural and social heritage. What's more, here @ColCivicSociety we happily gloat in the knowledge that we played a not an unimportant part in its preservation and regeneration.
It's what we do...
Colchester's Dutch Quarter is rich in history.

D is for #DutchQuarter. If you want to stay close to the town centre whilst you grab some exercise you can't go wrong with exploring the Dutch Quarter. There's thousands of years of history to discover, and occasional friendly feline residents too.
