What can polio transition teach us about building resilient health systems?
Iraq’s experience offers an important lesson: the value of polio investments lives on to strengthen health systems.
At a regional learning session during #EMRC73 Virtual Week, Iraq demonstrated how polio assets and capacities have been integrated into national surveillance, laboratory and immunization systems, with support from WHO and partners. These steps have strengthened health system resilience and are supporting the country to sustain its polio-free status.
Such lessons can help countries across the Eastern Mediterranean Region turn the gains of polio eradication into lasting public health capacity.
