Dictacting they shouldn’t do this or that. “we need to save them!” “They shouldn’t do this!” “They shouldn’t do that.” Nah, they’re telling you they don’t need your caution. This is their life. Captured us? We have one final move we can make that will turn the game around. We’ll strike when your guard’s down. Again, they’re reemphasizing that this is not the end for them. They haven’t lost yet even if many people think they’re about to lose. ————- 🎵“In front of a world that has its sights set on us, checkmate, checkmate” —- interpretation —- 📝 this one literally means “in a world where people are targeting them” they declared Checkmate. They flipped the board around and they’ve won. Checkmate. —————— Checkmate fits into the vampire now narrative since they are being pursued and hunted. But it also fits their real life story as well. Many people thought it was the end for Enhypen after March, but they flipped the board and came back triumphant and won so many awards and broke records. Categorically, I would call Checkmate their diss track to anyone who ever wished for them to fail, to disband, to leave. Riki sums it up best in Highlight, the song following Checkmate. He raps “We’re still here. We never left.” Enhypen is not going anywhere. They are here to stay and they will win in the end.
