The UK government is proposing to give the EU the power to make UK laws and determine payments, with the EU's Court of Justice handling trade disputes. The EU demands cross-retaliation for non-compliance between new agreements and the EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA). Despite the UK's efforts to leave the EU and sign new trade deals, the EU will control the trade the UK conducts with other countries. The EU's control over the UK's agricultural and industrial imports will impact the UK's independent trade agreements. The EU's claim of ensuring a 'level playing field' is a sick joke. The EU has a massive advantage in agricultural and industrial goods and in industrial goods. The UK imports significantly more agri-food products from the EU than it exports, and the EU's agricultural regulations will exacerbate this trade imbalance. The EU subsidizes its farmers, while the UK pays is farmers for environmental projects, lowering UK production and increasing the prices of UK-produced foods. The EU does not follow international product regulations and has a poor record on farm animal diseases. The EU has lower animal welfare regulations compared to the UK. Why would anyone let them make UK rules on these issues. The EU's control over the UK's emission trading scheme (ETS) and Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) will impact the UK's manufactured goods imports. The EU's higher carbon prices will drive the UK's remaining industries out of business. Joining the EU's CBAM will also harm UK exports and make imported raw materials such as steel and aluminium more expensive. If the UK public don't complain loudly about this capitulation to their MPs and through the media, they will get the unelected government they deserve - in Brussels.
