Thank you again to all the amazing #SmallBizDC panelists that joined our roundtable tonight & to all those who tuned in & asked questions. I look forward to continuing to be part of the conversation on how we can support a thriving, local small business scene here in DC #EdForDC
Big picture: I think we need to acknowledge and rectify the ways systemic racism has cemented wealth disparities in this city which make it harder for our Black and brown residents to access the opportunity and stability required to run successful businesses. #SmallBizDC #EdForDC
As we wrap up our #SmallBizDC roundtable tonight, a panelist asked me to reflect on my vision for a more equitable small business landscape in DC. First of all, I was excited to convene this conversation tonight in large part to hear from all of you about that #EdForDC
Personal note from Ed: I think it should be our goal to get through this pandemic and see all of our beloved local small business survive. I think we should be talking about rent abatements and making sure an eviction ban applies to small businesses as well #EdForDC #SmallBizDC
Paying rent on office space or brick and mortar storefronts when revenues are down and places like downtown DC have so drastically emptied out is top of mind for many of the small business owners talking with us here tonight #SmallBizDC #EdForDC
Small business owners on our panel agree that they're motivated by much more than the bottom line - they own and operate local small businesses because they're driven to provide something in our communities. That has guided them through this pandemic #EdForDC #SmallBizDC
And last but most certainly not least, we are joined by Sunyatta Amen of Calabash Tea and Tonic - @calabashtea. Such an amazing group of small business owners gathered here today to discuss the impact of the pandemic on #SmallBizDC #EdForDC https://t.co/7cQkX7h9qK
Next up we have Xanthia Johnson, the owner & CEO of Urban Playology, which provides transformative psychotherapy and creative arts therapy for the healing of black women, families, and LGBTQ+ folks. So glad to have you here manifesting dopeness with us! #EdForDC #SmallBizDC
Excited to welcome out next panelist Maddie Watkins of @202strong, a locally owned and operated fitness company - you can tune in to hear from MAddie and all the panelists on FB right now: https://t.co/7cQkX7h9qK #EdForDC #SmallBizDC
Our next panelist is Kim Dreux Kelly of @thinklocaldc - Kim works with local and small businesses, residents, and policymakers to grow a sustainable local economy #EdForDC #SmallBizDC
Our panelist Joe Lapan is the co-owner of Songbyrd Music House (@SongbyrdDC) in Adams Morgan and a new project called Byrdland Records (@byrdlandrecords) opening soon in Union Market #EdForDC #SmallBizDC
We're also joined tonight by John Kepner of @zekescoffeedc - you've probably seen Zeke's at one of their two stores or at farmer's markets across DC! Remember, you can still tune in live at https://t.co/7cQkX7h9qK #SmallBizDC

We've all watched first hand as small businesses have struggled and adapted in the face of the pandemic - and this issue is personal for me as well. Growing up my parents were small business owners - running a bakery in my hometown of Sioux City, Iowa #EdForDC #SmallBizDC
A bit of context: I've been hosting roundtables throughout my campaign to make sure we as a community are lifting up critical voices on some of the most important issues our city faces - voices and issues that will be top of mind for me if elected. #EdForDC #SmallBizDC
Thanks to all those who joined our #DCStatehood convo tonight - from panelists to those who submitted questions to all those who tuned in to listen. As we wrap up, a reminder that democracy is on the ballot so go vote - safely! More info at https://t.co/Aomf9ZQrw7 #EdForDC
Love this rallying cry from longtime #DCStatehood champion Joyce Robinson-Paul: We pay, we should get a say! Amen to that. The taxation without representation has got to end. Statehood is a matter of fundamental human rights - and it's within our grasp! #EdForDC
As @jeremiah4dc points out, fighting for #DCStatehood must go hand in hand with fighting for other important democracy boosters like #RankedChoiceVoting, ethics reform, and more #EdForDC
As we know, progress never comes without organizing! @jeremiah4dc points out there has been a lot of work happening to build national coalitions in support of #DCStatehood - from the environmental movement to states attorney generals and beyond. The momentum is building! #EdForDC
What about the money? You know I have to get into the budget details! W/ #DCStatehood, nonresidents who work in DC would actually pay income tax here - as happens in every other state in the country. This would bring in well over $1 billion a year-maybe up to $2 billion #EdForDC
