Currently reading… “High Performance…” by Humphrey & Hughes. Many thought-provoking #EduModels in the first two chapters.

@EmilyDeLiddo Last week we were discussing how rigorous courses are designed to meet the needs of all students. It’s not just differentiation, UDL, etc. It’s also how the curriculum unfolds. How core skills are introduced early & pulled through. I scribbled this in my notebook. #EduModels

Do you ‘spiral’ or ‘march’ through units? ‘Spirals’ support ALL learners by emphasizing core skills, w/ lots of opportunities for practice! 🎉 Curriculum that ‘marches’ has ‘one and done’ lessons. All learners have to keep up. 😔 Today’s #EduModel. #EduModels

Ever notice how edu. progressions can be stepped or stacked?
If we pass through stages they are "stepped." (think crawling>walking>running)
If we accumulate layered skills, they are stacked. (think addition>subtraction>multiplication>division)

What a treat to spend two days with @HollyClarkEdu exploring how #AI might support the writing process with elementary students. Picked up Holly’s new book and read it cover to cover. 👏 Stay tuned…I’ve got some take-away to share. #WeAreChappaqua #ChapAI #EduModels #EduModel

Doubling down - "#TIMELINES are the work of managers - #PROGRESSIONS are the work of #leaders." Here are four ways to draw progressions. Get good at thinking about them - and drawing them! Got progressions? Please share! #EduModels #EduModel

@DrAPease Yes to all of them!! I 🫶 your #edumodels and am proud to be a member of this innovative culture.
3) protect those doing the work from those who spend time watching & talking about those working.
4) Innovations are “fledglings” easily crushed by the status quo.
5) They are often “ugly ducklings” not elegant final products. Nurture them. #EduModels

Today’s #EduModel - Thinking about how lesson plans are timelines. ‘Gradual release’ & ‘Workshop’ have similar parts but time is distributed differently. The big independent practice chunk supports strategy group’s & conferencing. #EduModels

As we start the new school year, notice the cycles that create the rhythms in your life. The years, weeks, days, and hours all cycle. What parts of your cycles are helpful & important (eating healthy, a daily walk)? Which parts are harmful or destructive? #EduModels

When it come to curriculum, how aligned is “too aligned.” ‘What we teach’ and ‘when we teach it’ can’t be a free-for-all. But a tight script isn’t the answer. How do we know when we’ve found the “just right” level of curriculum coherence? #EduModels

I’ve been doing some thinking about when things cycle, and when, how, and why a cycle becomes a spiral. Trying to get some of these mental models out of my 3-D imagination and onto 2-D paper. Here are a few sketches. #EduModels
