In 1863, Robert Todd Lincoln, the eldest son of President #AbrahamLincoln, fell from a crowded train platform in Jersey City. As the train approached, #EdwinBooth, one of America's most celebrated actors of the time, grabbed young Lincoln by his coat collar and pulled him to safety.
A few months later, Robert recognized his rescuer from a photograph. In a twist of fate, Edwin was the brother of John Wilkes Booth - the man who would later assassinate President Lincoln.
Edwin Booth carried this memory as a source of comfort after his brother's infamous deed, knowing that despite his family's dark legacy, he had once saved the life of a President's son.
