The parents of nine-year-old Harvey Morrison have warned it is “only a matter of time” before another child dies because of issues at Children’s Health Ireland (CHI), the hospital network responsible for his care. “We haven’t slept since he died. We are very much on autopilot but we are still in advocacy mode. This is the aftermath of failures within CHI,” Gillian said. Stephen said he had promised his son on his deathbed that he would never stop campaigning for change. “Watching doctors trying to revive him is something that will stay with me for ever,” he said. “All we can do now in Harvey’s honour is fight to make sure other children get better treatment than he got. So they won’t face the struggles and hopefully reach their full potential. I think that’s quite a nice legacy that he might have,” she said. The Morrisons are calling for a commission of inquiry into CHI’s treatment of children with spina bifida and scoliosis Jennifer Carroll MacNeill, declined to say whether she supported the Morrisons’ call for an inquiry.
