Good morning, everyone! We are constantly being warned that our youth are currently very disillusioned and disappointed with our democracy. There is deep-seated apathy among our young people, and they are desperately seeking solutions and praying for change. State Capture, corruption and arrogance of power are the three most dangerous elements threatening our nascent democracy and yes none of their leaders at the manifesto launch mentioned any of these things. What we know for a fact is that: - Nepotism dovetails into state capture. - Cronyism dovetails into state capture. This is the sad reality that defines the current NPP administration. On the flip side, state capture can have dire repercussions and ramifications: 1. State capture undermines democracy and the rule of law. 2. State capture stifles economic growth and development. 3. State capture erodes public trust and confidence in institutions. 4. State capture denies the majority of people jobs and opportunities, reserving them only for a few affiliates and cronies of the state. All of the above are clearly illustrated in the Afrobarometer report. In other words, our government’s notoriety has been seen and captured by not only Ghanaians but internationally as well. Examples of state capture abound: - In the wanton distribution of state lands through state institutions. - In the unbridled ‘chopping’ of state resources. - In the total annihilation of public institutions—for example, the Public Procurement Authority, now a pale shadow of itself. The reasons why unemployment rates are so high and poverty rates are rising can all be traced back to the state capture of everything —from the award of single source contracts to the daughters of the president, to the families of the vice president, and many others. Our youth, who are the future of this nation, deserve a society where merit, transparency, and accountability are the cornerstones of governance. It is imperative that we work together to dismantle these systems of corruption and restore the integrity of our institutions. Only then can we pave the way for sustainable development, equitable opportunities and a democracy that truly serves all its citizens. Dear young people join the NDC and vote for change.
