5 years ago today we hosted our first #ACEAwareNation conference, where over 2000 delegates joined us at the SEC Armadillo in Glasgow, as we welcomed @DrBurkeHarris to Scotland. We came together with the shared vision of making Scotland the world's first ACE-Aware Nation!

The #HiddenVoices projects were conceived by a resident of the @scottishprisons who came to realise that in order for those around them to make change or simply to have them meaningfully seek the support of many of the fantastic services available to them they would need to firstly feel worthy of more or courageous enough to aspire for more than they had become programmed to do.
That couldn't be achieved simply by writing but it could by offering an opportunity to be heard in the most unlikely way within a compassionate community without judgment.

It's incredibly important at this point in time that those blessed with voices/platforms of influence use them to lead & inspire compassion.

How do you remove your trauma from view & with it your right to compassion and understanding?
Could it be as simple as wearing a tie or speaking politely?
Prejudice moves in all directions.

Whilst we search for solutions it's important to create an environment that encourages people to risk moving forward even if just a little #HiddenVoices #EngagingWithKindness

We don't need to commodify kindness, just share it freely.

Ignoring Scottish "cultural norms" whilst demonstrating a willing to tackle more general social issues is very uncomfortable to watch. It speaks to an acceptance for self interested reasons.

Can't help but come to the conclusion at times that we have a tendency to means test trauma and the validity of the same.
In doing so we can demonstrate prejudice not awareness 🙏

2 years on from #SaughtonSonnets I received a note from a poet saying participating in #HiddenVoices saved their life. All we did was listen & engage in a little creative conversation.
