This was after the court discharged and acquitted Onnoghen from the charges preferred against him in 2019 for not properly declaring his assets leading to his removal from office and the freezing of onnoghen's bank accounts. The consent judgment is the outcome of settlement terms, reached by counsel to the Federal Government and the former CJN. The former Chief Justice of Nigeria had challenged his conviction and removal from office at the Court of Appeal.
