It has been a VERY long time since I did a #EuropeanBios thread, and this is the very last one: Virginia Woolf, born 1882. I was kind of hoping to release the last one with the book version but the book is going very slowly so here you go anyway.
Okay folks, the post #europeanbios project is going to be 1000 Years of Women in history. I'm taking any and all suggestions of women born from 1000CE onwards.
Time for #EuropeanBios entry #83; Joseph Vissarionovich Stalin, an absolute sociopath who turned an ideology into a religion and then murdered millions and millions of people in the name of that religion. He also loved movies, wrote lyrics for musicals, and was super hot.
It's been more than 2.5 years since I started the #EuropeanBios project and we are now approaching the end, with only 2 bios left. I'm going to turn these into a website, an ebook, and if there's enough interest maybe an actual printed book.
Today's #EuropeanBios thread is #82, Lise Meitner, born 1878, the woman who realized atoms could be split and was known as "the mother of the atomic bomb" but whose work has been deliberately obscured by generations of sexism and no small amount of anti-semitism.
People have kept asking so: yes, I will be compiling #EuropeanBios into a book, definitely ebook but maybe physical book too. If you'd like to hear about that process and provide feedback on preview chapters, you can do so by Super Following me if that feature is enabled for you.
Today is #EuropeanBios #81, and it's Winston Leonard Spencer-Churchill, born 1874, Prime Minister of the UK from 1940-1945 and then a second time from 1951-1955. He was without question key to allied victory in World War 2 and also equally without question a racist bastard.
It's #EuropeanBios #80, Vladimir Lenin: the man who killed the Romanovs, ended monarchy in Russia, and replaced it with a cruel dictatorship that permanently ruined the word "socialism" by twisting the ideas of Marx into something unrecognizable. Oh, and he enjoyed gymnastics.
(#EuropeanBios is a series of Twitter threads about famous European historical figures, from 500 BCE to 1963 CE. I mine for fun facts and comedy, people whose reputations don't match their lives, and queer people. The full list of threads and bios is at https://t.co/e2cfr4Fr0r)
World news continues disastrous and depressing so why not escape with me for a few minutes by reading #EuropeanBios #79, Grigori Rasputin? Born 1869, he was a weird and deeply creepy man about whom I bet you don't know a single true fact; his life was swallowed by his legend.
I am more and more seriously considering turning #EuropeanBios into an actual book once I am done with it. Be honest, would you buy such a book?
Here is #EuropeanBios thread #78, re-posted cuz I messed up the first one. This is the story of Marie Curie, born 1867. A genius who coined the term "radioactivity" and won 2 Nobel prizes, she spent her life fighting sexists who tried to ignore her existence and erase her work.
P.S. If you're enjoying #EuropeanBios, you can find the index to all the threads at https://t.co/d66TRsrRWU. And if you are so inclined, you can now "Super follow" me on Twitter if that feature is enabled for you.
I finished a bio of Beatrix Potter, born 1866, so that means it's time for a #EuropeanBios thread, lucky #77. She is primarily famous as the author and illustrator of Peter Rabbit and other books for children, but there is a great deal more to her story, both triumph and tragedy.
It's been a while but it's time for #EuropeanBios entry #76, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Born in 1840 in Russia, he was a famous composer, drama queen, self-loathing homosexual, and all around nice guy. "Tchaikovsky" uses a lot of characters so I'll be calling him Pete a lot.

I love Laurie's #EuropeanBios, a celebration of the fabulous, the gay and the gothic in European history. Today's is Charlotte Bronte, whose life I thought I knew quite well, but some of the details are WILD.
Today's #EuropeanBios entry is #75 and it's Charlotte Brontë, author of Jane Eyre and sister to the authors of Wuthering Heights and Agnes Grey respectively. Jane Eyre is known as a work of fiction but I'm here to say it was all real. The Brontë family were a LOT, so buckle up.
