Top Tweets for #EveryThreeDays
Between May 21 and May 22, I researched and wrote about 125 women killed by men as part of a campaign using the hashtag #EveryThreeDays. I later discovered that the same hashtag was being used in the US to highlight the killing of racing greyhounds—an unexpected overlap, but I digress.
Documenting these killings had a profound effect on me. Immersing oneself in cases of male violence almost daily is not something anyone’s mental health can easily absorb.
One case that has stayed with me is the murder of Andrea Lewis, who was found dead at a property on Fairyland Road, Tonna, Neath, on 31 January 2016. She had suffered 43 separate injuries, including a fractured skull and broken ribs.
What struck me most was that Andrea had been seen by colleagues at Neath’s Castle Hotel, where she worked, with visible bruising on multiple occasions. Reports at the time noted that her injuries were so noticeable that she was moved away from customer-facing duties.
Sadly, this is not unusual. Employers and colleagues are often aware—or at least suspicious—that someone is experiencing domestic abuse, yet feel unsure, unprepared, or unwilling to intervene.
I raise this now because the EHRC’s 2025–2028 Strategy Plan identifies sexual harassment in the workplace as one of its priorities. That is both welcome and necessary.
But Andrea’s case forces us to confront a wider question about workplace responsibility.
Domestic abuse is not, in itself, a protected characteristic under the Equality Act. However, employers still have a duty of care, and abuse often intersects with issues the Equality Act does cover - including sex discrimination, victimisation, and the need for reasonable adjustments when someone is experiencing trauma or injury.
If an employer becomes aware that an employee is showing repeated signs of harm, they are not powerless. They can check in, offer support, signpost to specialist services, and ensure the workplace is not compounding the risk.
I cannot say that a different action by Andrea’s employer would have saved her life - no one can know that. However, workplaces are often the only places where victims are regularly observed enough for patterns of harm to be identified.
As the EHRC focuses on workplace safety and harassment, it is worth asking whether the next step should be clearer expectations for employers when they see signs of domestic abuse.
For some women, the workplace may be the only environment in which someone can notice... and act.
@MonicaCollantin @jk_rowling Only a tiny minority of signs on marches could be deemed as offensive. The media pick them out for sure - they seek clickbait. People say things that they shouldn't, especially when they are angry. I condemn all threats of violence & called it out in my #EveryThreeDays campaign.
It appears that Bob dont want to reply, I wonder if @garylfrancione would like to inform us what action he is taking to stop men raping and murdering women and girls?
Hint, Gary, check my timeline and #EveryThreeDays campaign in 2021/22.
Nobody speaks for all women Bob, including you so maybe let women speak for themselves. Can I ask meanwhile what actions you are taking to stop men raping and murdering women and girls they know, usually in their own household which is by far the most common form of abuse.
Hi @carolecadwalla, on the 11/03/22, I remembered Lucy Ayris, killed by her boyfriend in my #EveryThreeDays campaign.
On 7/3/25, it will be the 10th anniversary of when Lucy was killed. Her sister would like her remembered this year. Can you help?

"He didn't treat me as a person - but an object to be used" was, sadly, a familiar theme.

From May 2021 to May 2022, I ran the #EveryThreeDays campaign to call out #VAWG and remember 125 #women killed by a man. Yesterday, at one of the events I attended to start our #16DaysOfActivism I was horrified by some of the stories I heard.
Why does the police and criminal justice system STILL fail women?
My contribution to International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women will be to repost some of the remembrances of the women killed by a man that was truly shocking.
Today, the first of #16Days posts: Joanne Hammer.

For one whole year we researched and published the story of 125 women killed by a man. We did that for trans and cis. The campaign ended in April last year #EveryThreeDays.
We thank @jessphillips for rejecting #transphobia.
#TransWomenAreWomen
@successfulhoax @jk_rowling Indeed we would. Are you not aware of our year long #EveryThreeDays campaign, that ended in April?
For one year, we ran our #EveryThreeDays campaign - remembering a woman killed by a man. Natalia Strelchenko's murder stood out. A fantastic classical concert pianist who gave so many so much pleasure.
We wrote about her death exactly one year ago today.

Our one-year #EveryThreeDays campaign remembering a woman or trans woman killed by a man ends today with a remembrance of Frances Cleary-Senior.
In total, I wrote 125 sad, sometimes tearful, stories calling out male violence which simply must end.

After one year our #EveryThreeDays Campaign will finish on the 29th of April. By then we will have remembered 124 women. Unlike the @FemicideCensus (who excludes us) we have included all trans women lost over the last 10 years.
We remember them - always
