Let’s go see a bill to #ban3cueing signed by the Governor. This has been a long time coming and it will be emotional to see it happen. #Hb307 #GaPol #LiteracyAndJusticeforAll #ReadingisaHumanRight #EvidenceBasedorBS
@Scharlesquinn @DDGA13 Onward to the senate we go!!! Can’t stop, won’t stop. Literacy IMPACTS EVERYTHING!!! Children can’t wait!! #UntilAllCanRead #EvidencebasedorBS
Unanimous House passage!!! Thank you so much for your support!! And so it goes… On to the senate! #OurChildrenCantWait #LiteracyCantWait #EvidenceBasedorBS #HB538 #GAPol
Probably my favorite vote so far is voting for HB538. The advocates working on this did an amazing job, and I hope this bill helps bridge a major literacy gap. #GAPol
Happy Friday, literacy warriors! Here’s a good shirt for your upcoming IEP meeting, if they try to tell you F&P LLI is evidenced based. Balanced Lit = BS!! #DyslexiaAwarenessMonth #OOTD #EvidenceBasedOrBS
@DrMPaff I personally detest Skippy Frog…he instills a lifelong habit of skipping words you can’t read instead of decoding the word. #evidencebasedorBS
Here’s my #1in5 💙. Remember him and all of the lives you’re affecting when you fight for any literacy instruction that isn’t evidenced based. #DyslexiaAwarenessMonth #UntilAllCanRead #EvidenceBasedorBS
@untilallcanread thank you for speaking up for all our kids at the state level!! 📣 This is how change happens right here!! #saydyslexia #evidencebasedorBS #screentointervene
It was an honor to speak on behalf of @DDGA13 today & advocate for our children. All children deserve an equal opportunity to learn to read and we so appreciate the opportunity to offer feedback and help guide the rollout of the Dyslexia Law in GA. Thank you! #UntilAllCanRead
Why are @GwinnettSchools and so many other districts in Georgia continuing to implement curriculum that other states have rightfully BANNED because it is NOT evidence-based and it is FAILING our children?!?! #EvidenceBasedorBS
A tale of two GA districts: this week @GwinnettSchools teachers got @FountasPinnell books in their workboxes and @FultonCoSchools got @LouisaMoats LETRS training. Question of the day: Which district is empowering their teachers & admin to teach literacy?
.@elenaparent @mmo_mary Arkansas has banned the use of the “balanced literacy” approach in its public schools, in favor of the research-based approach. Georgia must do the same! ⬇️ #EvidenceBasedorBS
Sounds just like students with Dyslexia everywhere. Learning to read is a human right but FAPE is denied every minute of every day as districts continue to pour $millions$ into failed balanced literacy programs that teach our kids to GUESS not READ. #EvidencebasedorBS
@everyonereadste Sounds just like students with Dyslexia in the Mercer Island School District in Washington. The district’s denial of FAPE and to provide appropriate reading and spelling programs has created a huge mental health crisis in students with Dyslexia. Thank you for covering the impact
When you consider the social/emotional ramifications of this viscous cycle, it’s honestly abusive. #evidencebasedorBS #untilallcanread #saydyslexia
What an insidious cycle:
1) Teach beginning reading, poorly, to children by requiring memorization of "sight" words and guessing from pictures.
2) Watch as many children get frustrated and give up.
3) Suggest these children have some sort of reading disability.
4) Repeat.
