@SOCALGeologist @MarloWordyBird The seafloor at our first site is 5006 meters deep. If we achieve our goal, we will reach 633 mbsf (meters below seafloor). Our goal at our next site is even deeper, 814 mbsf, and the seafloor is 5012 meters deep. We already drilled the sediment down to basement rock on #Exp390C.

Excitement today as we transit to our first #EXP390 site. Pre-expedition #EXP390C visited the South Atlantic Transect, and we have those cores on board. Now, we have now our first discrete sample of the expedition, collected by paleomagnetist Jaume Dinares-Turell. #NSFfunded

The amazing @svenja_halfter has helped give us insight to our beautiful sea monster that came up with the VIT frame during #Exp390C. Pyrosomes (pelagic sea squirts) are individual zoids joined by a gelatinous tunic! SO FREAKING COOL! Enjoy some scope 📸 too>>

@svenja_halfter We had something that looked like this come up with our deep sea cameras on the Atlantic Ocean last month. Our gelatinous mass kind of fits the pyrosome description. It was massive! I am curious to discover what it was. Are you able to give some wisdom? #Exp390C @TheJR
