To my Marvel Super Heroes RPG #FASERIP homies, here are clearer pics of my recent commission by original TSR artist Jeff Butler.
In the 80's we got both a Basic and Advanced Set, and then a Revised Basic Set in 1991, but never a new Advanced Set.
So in classic "What If" fashion, I asked Jeff to illustrate a new Advanced cover as if we *did* get an updated Box Set in the 90's, and I sent a list of characters and the costumes they were wearing circa 1993.
Instead of 15 characters like the 80's set I cut it to nine so that they could be bigger and more in your face, 90's style. ๐
Jeff was so excited about the idea that he replicated the exact process of creating the 1986 set, right down to hand drawn inks on 17x22 bristol board, he even did the lettering and TSR logo by hand!
But that wasn't all, because he then decided to scan the finished original so that he could color it! He told me he was going to do something different with the grid that they normally appear on, and boy did he ever!
He said that the printing process TSR used back in the day always dulled the colors, which he found disappointing, but not anymore! Wow!
