Great work by FDJ, in particular Dickson and Kraak if not them, Wollaston wouldn't have won!

This year’s edition is very similar to last year's race. The opening phase features some rolling terrain and false flats, but nothing overly demanding. The decisive action comes in the final circuit, with two passages over Challambra Crescent and Geelong College.
Challambra Crescent is the key climb: 1.1 km at an average of 9%, followed shortly after by Geelong College, 650 metres at 5.2%. From the top of the last climb, riders still have around 7–8 km to the finish, mostly on a slight downhill, which makes the race highly tactical.
Compared to the men’s race, there are fewer repetitions of the climbs, but this is still a demanding and very unpredictable race. Attacks are guaranteed, and the race is wide open, with many riders capable of winning.
My top pick is Ally Wollaston. Last year’s winner comes into this race after a very strong Tour Down Under, showing excellent form. She didn’t contest the TDU one-day race and finished 20th at the Cadel Criterium, which raises a few small questions, but assuming she’s healthy, she remains the main favourite. Wollaston is a rider who can sometimes look like a pure sprinter and other times like a puncher, but right now she clearly fits the sprinter puncher profile that suits this course perfectly.
Noemi Rüegg deserves major attention. Third here last year, she arrives after winning the Tour Down Under and is clearly in top form. This kind of race suits her extremely well, and it would be no surprise to see her win.
From UAE Team ADQ, Paula Blasi stands out to me as their best option. She had a solid Tour Down Under and has a strong sprint from reduced groups. UAE are likely to race aggressively, possibly attacking with riders like Dominika Włodarczyk and Mavi García, but Blasi looks like their best card if it comes down to a punchy sprint.
That said, Dominika Włodarczyk herself is also a very strong contender capable of sprint. She finished second here in 2024.Her form looks good again, making her one of the safest picks for a top result.
Josie Nelson is another name to watch closely. She had an excellent Tour Down Under and has already finished fourth here in 2023. With her current form, she has the potential to improve on that result.
Marta Lach also comes into this race after a solid Down Under. She’s a sprinter who handles short, punchy climbs well, which makes her a dangerous rider if she survives the final climbs in the front group.
Sarah Van Dam is another very interesting option. She impressed at the Tour Down Under, climbs well and has a strong sprint in reduced groups definitely a rider to keep an eye on.
Femke Gerritse is a bit of a question mark. She looked very strong early in the Tour Down Under but then faded, including a DNS and a DNF in recent criteriums. If she’s in good condition, she’s absolutely a top contender but her current form is hard to read.
Finally, don’t rule out a long-range attack from Mavi García. She surprised me at the Tour Down Under with how strong she looked. She doesn’t have a sprint, so her only option is to go on the offensive, but UAE are likely to race very aggressively, and Mavi will almost certainly try something from distance.
Overall, expect attacks, small groups, and a wide-open finale this is one of the most unpredictable races on the calendar.
