NBA/NCAA adopting the FIBA Unsportsmanlike Foul (which isn’t perfect in its implementation; nothing is) would be a big improvement over the flagrant fouls, take fouls, intentional fouls, etc.
Really, just go full #FIBARules.
#FIBARules solve the problem.
Haven’t seen it mentioned, but:
1. Defense can’t call timeout in that situation;
2. No liveball timeout;
3. Coaches call timeout to scorekeeper (supposed to be ahead of time) who hits the horn at the next available time when a timeout can be granted.

@tsnmike I disliked the rule before I coached in Europe. Now I’d hate to coach with any other rules. #FIBARules are better than NBA, NCAA & NFHS, & USA would be better off with one set of rules, at least between NFHS, NCAA MBB & NCAA WBB.

24s shot clock, quarters, live-ball timeouts, coaches constantly on the court, passing from front court to back court on OB plays, etc.
I ask again:
Player dribbling toward basket. Nobody in front. Defense reaches out & grabs the back of the jersey to stop clock.
Is that not a flagrant/intentional foul? Just a personal foul?

I can’t believe there’s no added penalty.
There’s a real problem with NCAA (WBB) rules when you can reach out & trip a player who would have a break away layup (unsportsmanlike foul in FIBA) & it’s just a common foul and side out of bounds. #FIBARules

Is there really no rule in NCAA basketball to prohibit defense from fouling away from ball before ball is inbounded? Just run and grab worst shooter far from ball as soon as ball is handed to Inbounder? No penalty? Just FTs like common foul? We need #FIBARules
Coaches should not be allowed to run on the court to call a timeout to bail out a player who has picked up the dribble or dribbled into trouble. #FIBARules. No live-ball timeouts.
NBA should not allow live-ball timeouts to bail out players' mistakes and punish good defense. Best players in the world. Treat them like it. #FIBARules
Watching U13s play competently with a 24-second shot clock this morning, and will watch college (professional) players with a 30-second shot clock this evening.

@Hassel_Chris #FIBArules eliminates the problem…(1) no defensive timeout on ball in play; (2) call timeout to scorer’s table, not referees.
@bballbreakdown Based on refs' heads (can't see eyes), the C on opposite side is watching the LeBron/AD screening action. No chance he sees LeBron motion for timeout. Trail (near ball) is watching the inbound.
Banning live ball timeouts is the answer anyway! #FIBARules
Another reason for #FIBARules: 40-minute games easily accommodates a 10-player (I play all 12) rotation. 24-second shot clock increases possessions.
Some will still be unhappy as below, but more opportunities.
14 players on the team
14-8 aren’t happy b/c they aren’t playing very much or at all
8-6 aren’t happy b/c they aren’t starting
5-3 aren’t happy b/c they aren’t getting as many shots as 1&2
2-1 aren’t happy b/c the rest of their team isn’t good
