It's fair to say that oakwoods and groves are amongst our favourite places to spend time, and that for many of us October, especially Halloween, is our favourite time of year, just as we step into the dark half of the year of the ancient Irish. 🎃🔥 The exact origins of this wonderful occasion are the subject of debate and the point in time when joy and celebration slipped replaced the fear and uncertainty remains unknown. But at least part of the answer lies written within an ancient Irish poem named the Slige Dála. 🪶 And even as ghosts, spirits and fairies slip through the weakened veil and run amok and wild in our world, it was the fairy folk of Ireland’s great and ancient oakwoods, populated with stunning Sessile and Pedunculate Oak, who first taught us the secrets of staying safe and of turning that strange and frightening night into something special.
