The officer who escorted Megan to Cedars Sinai told investigators that Megan repeatedly denied being shot and said she cut her foot on glass. That officer then spoke with Dr. Loffredo, who reportedly said Megan’s injury was consistent with a laceration from stepping on glass. The report also says that because neither Megan nor the witnesses reported a crime, officers left the hospital before the X rays were taken. Then Detective Eberhardt contacted Cedars Sinai, and according to the report, the hospital did not report having any bullet slugs or evidence waiting for police pickup. Nothing was turned over. The investigator even wrote that Megan’s medical records were necessary “to confirm what caused her injury.” That line is important. Because if police themselves were still trying to confirm what caused the injury, and Cedars had not turned over any bullet slugs or physical evidence, how had the story already become so definite?
