The Punch Newspaper launched the #FREEESE campaign with a bold cover story on Sunday, February 28, 2016, carrying a highly subjective headline, “Kano man steals, forcefully marries 14 year old Bayelsa girl.” Yet, the newspaper has not launched a #FREEWALIDA campaign for the 16 year old Jigawa girl, Walidah, who was abducted, defiled, and forcefully converted to Christianity by an Igbo man and an officer of the DSS. Sadly, he also fathered a child with the innocent girl, while the entire media space, including human rights activists, remains largely silent.
