& it’s not just logistics that makes Gr. 4/7 FSAs a kick in the teeth to #bced teachers. It’s the fact that, in a pandemic, 1/2way through the school year, #bced is STILL fighting for basic protections like #MasksDistanceVentilate. #B117 Disrespect for *months*.😡 #FSAfail /11

Teachers have been bending over backwards to keep schools open while “exposures” keep happening. #bced doesn’t need a useless FSA test, that means nothing b/c students had interrupted schooling for 3 mo last yr, some kids are doing it in remote DL, & timing is off. #FSAfail 10/

And teacher mental health? The hours already spent planning so both groups (writers and non-writers) can coexist in the same room and have some kind of learning going on while the test-takers have absolute silence, is huge. Not to mention tech glitches. 🙄 #FSAfail 9/

What about student mental health? Student mental health was ostensibly the reason why #bced schools were opened with mostly full classes. Writing 6 separate standardized tests goes against that reasoning. Especially with the logistical issues detailed above. #FSAfail 8/

In what scenario does *anyone* imagine writing a standardized test in the same room with a bunch of students who do not need to write and therefore should be getting lessons but won’t be? Can you imagine this in university or high school? Why 9-13 year olds then? #FSAfail 7/

This happens 6 times over 3 wks. Approximately 1 hour each time, once you factor in explaining instructions & needing to give enough time for all to complete. That’s a lot of learning lost, when we are already losing ⏰ every day to handwashing & attempts to distance. #FSAfail 6/

It’s a loss of vital learning time for all of those kids, not just 4/7. Because a silent room for 1 hour means stunted skill development opportunities for the remaining students. No lesson, no interactions. #bced 5/ #FSAfail

In a pandemic year, this is extra complicated. Now students cannot cross cohorts, unless we want to take extra risk by putting all the test-takers together and sending the other grades to remaining teachers. Not happening w/ 🦠cases popping up everywhere in #bced . #FSAfail 3/

Doing the FSA in normal years is a logistical nightmare in public schools, b/c 2 decades of gov’t funding cuts have resulted in split grades to “maximize class size” and save on teacher costs. So most elem classes are 3/4, 4/5, 5/6, 6/7. But not in private school. #FSAfail 2/
