🧠 Can functional ultrasound (fUS) data be used to reliably infer heart rate and breathing rate? New research involving scientists from Iconeus and Physics for Medicine Paris, now published in eBioMedicine – The Lancet Discovery Science, suggests the answer is yes! 🔍 In fUS experiments, signals from bulk brain tissue movements are typically filtered out to enhance sensitivity to small-scale blood volume signals used for imaging. But researchers discovered that this ‘waste’ data could actually be processed to reveal periodic signals linked to cardiac and respiratory pulsatility—providing valuable physiological insights. 💡 Even more promising, this processing can be done alongside fUS imaging acquisition, opening the door to a non-invasive alternative to cumbersome electrode-based methods for monitoring heart and breathing rates. Read more about this breakthrough, and how the method was applied in both rodents and humans, in the open-access paper: https://t.co/FUo5MJeSBC #fUS #neuroscience #functionalultrasound
