I opened my window to a glorious view this morning with the first thought being my #fabsix #writersgroup meetup in a few hours. Not only is reading their work and communing with like minded creatives putting a pep to my step, they have held me UP together with my IRL friends this summer. “You have so much support,” my hubs boasted yesterday—with the biggest of smiles! Then, my #promptwrite group on Weds is gonna push me to release all the feels later this week. I’ve also added all the art dates (sometimes I post on Insta) and finally came to terms that I’m a “community” eater. Meaning, I need to eat with someone or I don’t eat… and my friends have stopped by to have lunch or take me places. Some even do “virtual” lunches… and it’s been glorious! Therapy was upped sometimes to 3 times a week to keep my positivity on track and to avoid me doing trauma dumping with those I love. With some friends I’ve realized it’s healthier to just text instead of talking. Others, only in person. And yes, I also only have phone friends. Because each friend/person gives me a gift packed differently, and that’s OK. I’ve also been journaling consistently since July 3-6 days a week.
What happened? I was waiting for was a “plan.” And now that I have a somewhat real fall work/personal schedule, I can also refocus on new screenplays or editing those that I kept on the back burner. My producer is working on my feature and TV show, and a few other things up my sleeve. All this to say that this summer journey has been WILD and like nothing I’ve other imagined, but with God/my Catholic faith, my hubs and my friends near and far, I’m so very, very grateful beyond words 🙏❤️🙏❤️

Today, #fabsix #writersgroup. Before and after, I plan on working on wrapping up the locations budget for the feature I’m on. I’ll end my day with a girly appt—nails. And maybe, just maybe, I’ll cook for the hubs. How about you?

I wrote Meztliapan for the #FabSix and, as usual, got the best notes. Worked on it, sent it to festivals, and it’s now 2 for 2.
Then @analydiamonaco convinced me to adapt it as a feature and it’s already out to possible producers and I’m pretty sure it will be my second film.

Today, is the last meeting for this session of the #fabsix #writersgroup. We have been meeting every-other-week for four years (10 meeting “sessions” with a 3 week break)! This is the system I developed for this group, shared with the #animationwritersgroup, and a couple of others. Since meeting, we've written several feature and pilots, some winning major awards, many securing us representation, getting produced, gotten sales, and even our jobs! And, for the first time since Esther and I founded the group of six diverse writers (like the USA: 50% men, 50% women, Whyte, Black, Brown and Asian), I made the executive decision to take a break till mid Jan, 2025.
Basically, we need to take a breather from one another, touch grass, do our own thing, and come back refreshed to continue to kick ass! Cheers to our continued success and the rising tide we are riding! 🫶
Today, I have #fabsix #writersgroup and a ton of errands and to-do's. I will Zoom with my 85-year-old friend, whom I met through my research process for my commissioned biopic. He's so excited that he already sent me a reminder text this morning. I do have a screening that I RSVP'd for this PM, but let's see where this day goes.
