📢 Open Letter to Sony PlayStation – Where Has the Community Gone?
Dear PlayStation Management, dear Lin Tao,
I’m writing this post not as an angry individual, but as one of many gamers who have been part of the PlayStation family since the PS3 era. I’ve laughed, celebrated, and fought alongside you—and most importantly, I’ve always felt welcome at Sony PlayStation.
But after the announcement on July 31, 2026, pushing PlayStation toward a fully digital future without real alternatives, one question keeps haunting me:
Where has the community gone—the community that carried you all these years?
A Look Back at 2011 – What United Us
In 2011, Sony was hit by the LulzSec hack—a devastating blow that demanded trust-rebuilding measures. But instead of going on the defensive, the PlayStation management of that time took action:
✅ Public apologies on camera
✅ Free AAA games as compensation for affected users
✅ Honest communication and accountability
That was the PlayStation I knew. Gamers were taken seriously—not as a profit source, but as a community.
What’s Happening Now – And Why It Hurts
Today, it feels like the focus has shifted to shareholders and investors—not the community. The announcement to phase out physical media and push for a fully digital future, without:
❌ Affordable alternatives (e.g., physical copies or reasonably priced subscriptions)
❌ Solutions for gamers with financial or health challenges
❌ Consideration for regional laws (e.g., in the EU, where digital exclusivity often clashes with legal boundaries)
… feels like a betrayal of the past.
Why This Matters to Me Personally
I’ve been with PlayStation since the PS3 era—and I also live with a chronic illness that forces me to stretch every euro. The last time I bought three games from my favorite gaming shop, I saved €106 compared to the PlayStation Store.
Question for you:
If I can’t even afford games anymore because the Store is overpriced and there are no alternatives—what’s left of this PlayStation future?
A Plea to Lin Tao and PlayStation Management
Lin Tao, I urge you: Listen to the concerns of the community. Take a page from 2011—a time when Sony understood that trust and appreciation are the strongest bonds.
We deserve:
✔ Real alternatives—not just digital exclusivity
✔ Fairer pricing—especially for budget-conscious gamers
✔ Respect for our history—we’re more than just customers; we’re a community
PlayStation was once the place where we all felt welcome.
Please don’t leave us behind just to boost profits.
