But instead of going on the defensive, the PlayStation management of that time took action: ✅ Public apologies on camera ✅ Free AAA games as compensation for affected users ✅ Honest communication and accountability That was the PlayStation I knew. Gamers were taken seriously—not as a profit source, but as a community. What’s Happening Now – And Why It Hurts Today, it feels like the focus has shifted to shareholders and investors—not the community. The announcement to phase out physical media and push for a fully digital future, without: ❌ Affordable alternatives (e.g., physical copies or reasonably priced subscriptions) ❌ Solutions for gamers with financial or health challenges ❌ Consideration for regional laws (e.g., in the EU, where digital exclusivity often clashes with legal boundaries) … feels like a betrayal of the past. Why This Matters to Me Personally I’ve been with PlayStation since the PS3 era—and I also live with a chronic illness that forces me to stretch every euro. The last time I bought three games from my favorite gaming shop, I saved €106 compared to the PlayStation Store. Question for you: If I can’t even afford games anymore because the Store is overpriced and there are no alternatives—what’s left of this PlayStation future?
